We have seen how the “Core” is the performance, but how to stretch the value of the purchase of new i7 920 that much more? With a RRP of $ 284 was not exactly the Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 cheap territory, but it is the cheapest of the new Core i7 CPU by a big margin.
What is the potential for $ 284 does not buy you though? The clock Q6600s to between 3.0 and 3.6GHz are usually, although certainly there are some people out there with some serious skill to have eked over 4GHz.
But with the new architecture comes a new way to overclock – we will guide you through how to get a solid overclock the Core i7 920 at two new motherboards, which describes what we find BIOS settings to work.

 Hardware Options
With the launch of our new platform is a bit limited when it comes to hardware choices because not all had arrived at the front of the store before. That said, there are two boards we are currently in office that we will try just to see how different types of leave, although we will conduct a full review as well so you know the ins and outs in the coming weeks.
In addition to the Core i7 920, we have a Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme Noctua 1366-RT and NH12P with LGA1366 mounting brackets – both offer exceptional power for cooling the CPU TDP of 130W, which will overvolted, increasing their power output.
In front of the motherboard we will use the MSI Eclipse X58 and Asus P6T Deluxe – both retail around £ 280 in England. Finally we have three channels Corsair Dominator 6GB kit that is considered second to 1,600 MHz with timings 8-8-8-24-2T at only 1.65V. It also should retail for around $ 300 (about £ 230) to make their expensive investment.
Moreover, because the Core i7 has a huge amount of memory bandwidth as well, running a three-channel 1600 MHz is not likely offer the greatest benefit given the price. Although we will investigate how the memory bandwidth and latency affect the performance specifically in a later article, if we seek the most enthusiastic awesome platform available, DDR3 1600 MHz is the way to go at 4GHz just because a good relationship with the Core i7 920 – which shows up on page BIOS.
The remaining components are identical to that used in Core i7 review so that the results we quote here directly compared.
